Danny Remembers Merv

It is pretty amazing that the six degrees of separation applies to anybody. Danny Davis comes in the office all the time. His product has always found popularity with our customers. He arrives dressed in his usual Cuban cabana shirt and always has a spring in his step. But all the times that he has come to the office, we never knew that he was a friend of Merv Griffin. Danny and Merv first worked together in the Freddy Martin Orchestra where Griffin was the baritone soloist. Davis also  produced the album A Tinkling Piano in the Next Apartment for Merv back in the 1960s. Danny says that Merv was not only a good talker, but that he was funny and very talented. Merv was most known vocally for the song “Ive Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts.” This just goes to show you that there is a connection between us all. For all of you collectors out there, does anyone have the original recording of the aforementioned song.

I’ve posted Merv’s original 1949 “I’ve Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts” at my blog, http://musicyouwont.blogspot.com/, along with two later versions (from 1961 and 1966, respectively).

Plus many more recordings by Merv….

Let me give my blog’s URL again, only without the comma. Now it should work:

    Sorry about that!
