Hispanic Country
Johnny Rodriguez and Freddy Fender pretty much have cornered the market on Latino- influenced country. What made them so unique, is that they were able to cater to both sides of the cultural fence. They pleased hard core country and tejano fans. Sadly, Freddy Fender died in 2006 and Johnny Rodriguez has faded into obscurity. Will Julio Iglesias, Jr, the winner of CMT’s Gone Country, have the chops to take over where the two pioneers left off? It is hard to say. We don’t really know him, and right now, radio isn’t too keen on playing his new single, “The Way I Want You.”
