It did look like they changed several of the award categories this year, which is odd. But with that said, fan-voted awards are a good way to allow the fans to participate in honoring their favorite pop culture figures. I mean, yes, there is value in having objective experts choose winners (such as for the Grammies, CMA, ACM, etc.). But having fans pick the winners is not a new trend. The People's Choice Awards, for instance, has been around since 1975. The best thing about these "fan-voted" awards shows is that it creates debate — yes, there were winners that had me scratching my head, too — and hopefully, a better product in the end. It does no good to decry the fans; they are the ones choosing the winners and non-winners. Also country_jim, we're not talking about mass awards for the non-winners on the CMT Awards. The country music performers are adults and understand (or should) the difference between winning and, well, losing; Little League players (whom you cite) haven't reached that maturity yet.

ANOTHER awards show...that's the problem. I mean, where does it end!?!? They keep having to invent new, ridiculous categories because they keep coming up with new award shows. "Oh gosh, so-and-so didn't get an award at the CMAs this year! Maybe we can CREATE a category for them and give 'em a belt buckle for an award." I mean, don't the fans "vote" by buying their stuff? I know, I know, it's great to get recognized for your work...but it's like handing trophies out to ALL the little league teams at the end of the year because we don't someone to be left out! And let's not forget to welcome our newest "country music star" to the fold -- Snoop Dogg! Hey...Snoop! Willing to arm wrestle Bon Jovi for that title?
