Americana Awards

Award shows and ceremonies are a dime a dozen. Unfortunately, they are forgettable at best, and carry no artistic clout. The one exception is this years Americana Honors and Awards ceremony. I guess the nomination that is relevant for our purecountrymusic bloggers would have to be the unorthodox duo of Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. They are up for duo project of the year with their phenonmenal album Raising Sand.  They have also been nominated for song of the year with “Gone Gone Gone(Done Moved On),” but they have got some stiff competition with Levon Helms(The Band) “Poor Old Dirt Farmer,” Hayes Carll’s “She Left Me For Jesus,” and Tift Merritt’s “Broken”.  Justin Townes Earl is one of the nominees for new emerging artists of the year. His last name might look familiar to you. He is the son of the genius songwriter Steve Earle. The awards will be presented on September 18 at the Ryman Auditorium. If you get the chance to purchase tickets, I suggest you go. It is very rare to see so many legends in music under the same roof, and yes I am excluding the grammies and any country music awards show.
