Crime of Passion

Well it seems that even after death, a celebrity can not escape scandal. A 47 year old man by the name of Christopher Edward Tanner is claiming that the late country legend Eddy Arnold was his father. Arnold’s estate is outraged at this claim. They are wondering why Mr. Tanner has taken so long at coming forward with this news. Tanner said that in 1992 his mother had a sit down with an US weekly reporter and gave an interview. She made the claim, that while she was involved in the music business in the 1950s and 60’s, she had a secret relationship with Eddy Arnold. Apparently, no one took the story seriously. Who would? Tanner is very eager to settle this matter. He said that he is not above exhuming the body and proving to the world that he is Eddy Arnold’s son. Does anybody think that this could ruin Arnold’s perfect reputation. His legacy does not have a blemish of any sort. I guess only time will tell.

I agree … it’s time for Mr. Tanner to prove his claim with solid, hard evidence or forever hold his peace.

Um, you get these claims sometimes, where a famous person dies and then weeks later, an individual comes forward claiming he/she was their biological parent. Some were legitimate claims; others were proven to be little more than fortune seekers.

I don’t have any facts to back up how often stories such as this occur, except I’d venture to say it happens more often than you think. I guess it will be up to the courts to decide which category Mr. Tanner fits — “legit” or “fortune seeker.”
