Didn’t think I was going to pick it back up, did you? Our #8 is by country music’s bad girl. Tanya Tucker has always been known for her cavalier lifestyle. She never fit within the confines of a typical country female artist. During the infancy of her stellar career, she was infamous for singing songs that were way beyond her years, and she was not afraid to sing a song or two by the long-haired outlaw David Allan Coe. Though her career mellowed out during the 1980’s, she was still able to release great ballads, such as, “Strong Enough To Bend” and “Love Me Like You Used To.” Then in 1991, she released the sugar-coated “Down To My Last Teardrop.” She has always pride herself in selecting songs that were written from a male perspective, but this song is saturated with estrogen. All of the sudden she became cute. She had left the heavy-handed lyrics of “Blood Red And Going Down” for lines like “I don’t care who are what you’re doin’, ain’t gonna a be no more boo-hooin,” which probably left the rebel in her with a feeling of disgust.  “Down To My Last Teardrop” is our #8. Does this song help provide the blue-print to where country music was heading. Can you believe that this song made it all the way to #2 of the country charts. This song is just one of the many examples of country music’s transformation into what we now know as modern country. Luckily, this song does not encapsulate Tanya’s career. If Tanya’s music is not real country, then maybe I need a refresher course.
