Country Music Goes To New York

You wouldn’t think that New York City would be the focus for a major fundraiser for the Country Music Hall of Fame, but that’s exactly what Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, and Rodney Crowell are going to do. This trinity of country music will host a songwriter’s round, where they will be sharing stories and their signature songs. Gill and Emmylou are esteemed members of the ‘Hall’ and Crowell belongs to the Nashville Songwriters’ Hall of Fame. Besides the performance, there will be a live auction, coctail reception and dinner. Don’t get any bright ideas. This event is only catering to ‘yankee’ money, in which tables of 10 are going for $10,000 to $25,000.

Why don’t they give the citizens of Nashville an opportunity to give to the Hall of Fame? This is because you would never see anything that cool in Nashville. There seems to be this disconnect between country music and Nashville itself. We do get to see some awesome songwriters at places like the Blue Bird Cafe and Norm’s River Road House, but it always seems like they remembered to bring their guitar, and not their voice. Country Music needs to show this city some appreciation, and in turn give us a chance to give back to them.
