It is amazing that this is the 22nd year of Farm Aid. This event has been raising money for family farms ever since September 22, 1985. It was first started from an idea that Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and John Mellencamp had while at Live Aid. During his own concert set, Bob Dylan wished that they could raise money for the farmers that were in attendance to pay off the money they owed to the banks. Thus, history was made. This year the benefit concert will be held at Randall’s Island in New York City on Sept 9.
Farm Aid is made up of an All-Star board of directors. Nelson, Young, Mellencamp, and Dave Matthews. Farm Aid has raised more than 30 million dollars to help out family farms. The line up consists of not only the aforementioned artists, but also Montgomery Gentry, The Allman Brothers Band, Counting Crows, Matisyahu, Guster, The Derek Trucks Band, Warren Haynes, Supersuckers, and the Ditty Bops. The official this years concert is Farm Aid 2007: A Homegrown Festival. If any of our blog readers are in the area, please get info on this amazing event. It not only helps out family farms, but helps the economy.
