Synthetic Country

We were reminiscing about country songs that we heard during our childhood, and one name kept popping up, Dan Seals. We searched for Dan Seals on Youtube and found the infamous “Bop” video. If you don’t remember this video, an older couple gets ready for a night on the town, and at the same time they juxtapose footage of the couple in their younger years. At the end, the couple proves to everybody that they can still dance with the best of them. The video is entertaining, but nothing special. However, what surprised me is how fake the song was. I think the only real instruments that I heard were the saxophone and the lead guitar. 1980’s pop music was definitely influencing country music way too much. Artists like Seals and Michael Martin Murphy, were experimenting with synthesizers, made popular by the New Wave craze. Though you can’t blame the artists. Nashville music executives are all about forgetting how country music got to where it is, and totally doing a 180 from it’s original intent.
