We’re Getting The Band Back Together

Some bands come and some bands go. I had got the impression that Exile had taken there name literally and fell off the face of the earth. I have always been an Exile fan. My first experience with the guys was at the Franklinton Fair in Franklinton, LA. I was young, but I remembered a [...]

How Grizzled Are You?

Vern Gosdin has always looked like somebody who stepped out of a Louis L’Amour novel. Put him in western wear, and you could definitely see him riding shotgun with Sam Elliott in The Sacketts. He still has that air of machismo with that glorious mustache, but with a defeated hairline. Recently, he has come out [...]

Taylor Swift, Love Story?

So the other day on the radio I heard Taylor Swift’s new song “Love Story.” Did I like it? Well, not so much… I guess the reason is that the song itself has a great concept, but it does not fit Taylor in the least. She is only 18, and she is [...]

The Ghost of Elvis Sings

Country Music’s hottest artists are being haunted by the restless spirit of Elvis Presley. A Christmas Duets album is being comprised of Elvis’ previous Christmas classics, pairing the king of rock n roll with the likes of Gretchen Wilson, Carrie Underwood, and Leann Rimes. Most of the original recordings were in mono, so an exact [...]

Jamey Johnson Mows Down the Roses

Last Friday I was lucky enough to meet hit songwriter and Mercury Nashville recording artist Jamey Johnson at the Bound’ry in Nashville. Prior to meeting Jamey, I didn’t realize that he had achieved such a high degree of success as a songwriter, and I’m glad — had I known he was one of the writers [...]

Synthetic Country

We were reminiscing about country songs that we heard during our childhood, and one name kept popping up, Dan Seals. We searched for Dan Seals on Youtube and found the infamous “Bop” video. If you don’t remember this video, an older couple gets ready for a night on the town, and at the same time [...]

Hank Williams fans can look forward to this fall’s release of a new Time Life set including 143 previously unreleased recordings. The songs, which were captured for a WSM radio series at the height of Hank’s career in 1951, were caught up in an eight-year legal battle. They are now property of Jett Williams and Hank Williams, Jr, who have agreed to a deal with [...]

Dottie Rambo Perishes In Bus Wreck

Accomplished Southern Gospel songwriter Dottie Rambo was tragically killed in a tour bus accident on May 11. Authorities are unclear to what made the bus steer out of control, all I do know is that gospel music lost someone very special. In the same vein as Bill Gaither, Dottie was known for great gospel songs [...]

Jerry Wallace Dead at 79

Country music lost yet another great artist with the passing of Jerry Wallace, 79, on May 5. Wallace’s hits include “Primrose Lane” (1959) and “If You Leave Me Tonight I’ll Cry” (1972). Wallace, who was nicknamed “Mr. Smooth” because of his singing style, retired in the late ’70s. He had put out over 45 chart successes in his career.

Country Legend Eddy Arnold Dies at 89

It is with great sorrow that we report the death of Eddy Arnold at age 89. Arnold, whose hits included “Make the World Go Away” and “The Last Word in Lonesome is Me,” was one of the most successful country singers in history. Joel Whitburn’s book, “Top Country Singles 1944-1993,” ranks Arnold the No. 1 [...]

Tim McGraw and Def Leppard Get Together to Show the World What it Means to Suck

You may recall an entry I wrote for this blog some time ago when Tim McGraw’s PR company announced his plan to collaborate with ’80s sensation Def Leppard. When I wrote the post, I decided to be charitable, to abstain from criticizing it until I heard it. “After all,” I thought, “who knows? It might [...]

Predators-Red Wings Rivalry Has Deep Roots

Last night I lucked into a ticket to see the Nashville Predators host the Detroit Red Wings in a Stanley Cup playoff game. The intensity of the game, in which Nashville tied Detroit 2-2 on the series (go Predators!), lay in more than the simple fact of its being a playoff match-up; it has been [...]

Staying True

George Strait should be the standard that we compare all country artists to. When pop was tainting country music in the 1980’s, Strait stayed true to the genre. Troubadour, George’s 37th album, is releasing to stores everywhere today.
Vince Gill and Patty Loveless are both featured on this greatly anticipated project. Soon, I will be posting [...]

Double The CD, Double The Tremolo

Country Music’s bubba, Toby Keith, will be releasing a double CD that will include his greatest hits and his latest single, “She’s a Hottie.” Can anyone take this man seriously? His hits are laughable at best. Sure we know all the words to “Should’ve Been A Cowboy”-and if you don’t, good for you-but Keith seems [...]
