#2 Worst Country Song of the 1990’s

Apparently, a wink from his girlfriend is an instant stress reliever in our #2. With just a blink of an eye, she sets him at ease faster than a shot of Southern Comfort. Of course, I am referring to Neal McCoy’s #1 hit in 1994, “Wink.” I know a lot of people who simply adore this song. I have narrowed it down to just one reason why this tune turns me off. I have never been able to take Neal McCoy seriously. He smiles way too much, and he fancies himself a hip-shaker. He appears to wear his heart on his sleeve. He glows a little too much, like a blushing bride. Now I know this sounds superficial. Neal seems like a nice guy. He is not a megalomaniac. He always has time for his fans. He just doesn’t fit into the mold of what I perceive as a real country singer. He doesn’t look beyond his years, and all of his songs are forgettable. I just wish he would give me a song that made me feel some sort of emotion not change the station.

Well, there were a couple of songs I did like from Neal McCoy — his No. 1 ballad “No Doubt About It” and a top 5 hit from 1995, “They’re Playing Our Song.” Certainly not memorable or groundbreaking, but those two songs were enjoyable nonetheless.

I say Neal McCoy in concert 3 years ago in Salt Lake City. It was one of the best shows that I have seen and a decent price to pay to see it. Thanks Neal for a great enjoyable night.
