Today I was looking at the list of nominees for this year’s 42nd Country Music Awards.  As usual I am not surprised by this year’s nominees and as as usual I am going to make my predictions.  Last year Top Female Vocalist went to Carrie Underwood, rightfully so, in my opinion.  This year I think it will be down to either Miss Underwood or possibly Taylor Swift, but who knows maybe Allison Krauss could sneak in and win it.  Brad Paisley won the Top Male Vocalist last year, and most likely he will win it again.  Unless Alan Jackson comes in to win with his work this year with his latest album “Good Time”.  Sugarland with no surprise took home the Top Vocal Duo last year, and I think they will also take it home again this year.  Rascal Flatts was the big winner of Top Vocal Group at the awards show last year, but I think they have some competition this year with Lady Antebellum hot on their tales.  Taylor Swift was crowned with the Horizon award last year, but this year I think Lady Antebellum will be honored with it.

Now lets move on to the other awards, Music Video of the year will probably go to Brad Paisley for “Waitin’ on a Woman.”  He took it home last year with “Online.”  Song of the Year for this year is difficult for me to pick a clear winner, because all of the songs up for grabs this year are great.  Last year the winner was “Give it Away”, written by Bill Anderson, and performed by George Strait.  If I had to pick I think this catagory would be down to “Good Time”, written and performed by Alan Jackson, or “Stay” written by Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland.  Single of the Year of course went to Carrie Underwood for her song “Before He Cheats” at last year’s awards, but this year she was not nominated in this category.  So my pick for this year is “Gunpowder and Lead” by Miranda Lambert.  George Strait took home Album of the Year last year and he could take it home again this year, but I think it will be down to him and Alan Jackson.

So this leads us to the last award, yes that is right, Entertainer of the Year.  Last year was no surprise when Kenny Chesney took home the award.  And this year his running mates are Brad Paisley, Sugarland, George Strait, and Keith Urban.  This is also a tough category to call, it could go back to Kenny, or really any of the other nominees.  This category is too close to call for me so we will all have to wait and see what happens here.

You can tune in and watch the awards on ABC, Wednesday November 12, 2008.
