The only difference between Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert, is that Miranda has probably done all the things that Carrie describes in “Before He Cheats.” Miranda exudes enough attitude to rival Jeannie C. Riley. We have already heard this little stick of dynamite on the title track to her album Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, but the charts never did it any justice. Then the top ten hit “Gunpowder and Lead” filled the airwaves and is now in contention for an ACM award. The pace of this song is like the beginning of a Mission Impossible Movie. Even though it is kind of hokey, the gunshot at the end is very effective. Country Girls are not going to be pushed around, and chances are their father taught them how to use a gun. The picture she paints in your mind is a sassy five-foot-nothing  southern belle standing barefoot in the doorway in a sundress ready to blow away her abusive husband into an oblivion. The 12 gauge might be too much for her, but all she has to count on is the spread. I have posted the lyrics below, so that you can get a complete picture of this song.  Southern women are not pushovers like Julia Roberts in Sleeping With The Enemy. They have more in common with Farrah Fawcett in The Burning Bed.

County road 233, under my feet
Nothin’ on this white rock but little ole me
I’ve got two miles till, he makes bail
And if I’m right we’re headed straight for hell

[Chorus:]

I’m goin’ home, gonna load my shotgun
Wait by the door and light a cigarette
If he wants a fight well now he’s got one
And he ain’t seen me crazy yet
He slap my face and he shook me like a rag doll
Don’t that sound like a real man
I’m going to show him what a little girls made of
Gunpowder and lead

It’s half past ten, another six pack in
And I can feel the rumble like a cold black wind
He pulls in the drive, the gravel flies
He dont know what’s waiting here this time

I’m goin’ home, gonna load my shotgun
Wait by the door and light a cigarette
If he wants a fight well now he’s got one
And he ain’t seen me crazy yet
He slap my face and he shook me like a rag doll
Don’t that sound like a real man
I’m going to show him what a little girls made of
Gunpowder and lead

His fist is big but my gun’s bigger
He’ll find out when I pull the trigger

I’m goin’ home, gonna load my shotgun
Wait by the door and light a cigarette
If he wants a fight well now he’s got one
And he ain’t seen me crazy yet
He slap my face and he shook me like a rag doll
Don’t that sound like a real man
I’m going to show him what a little girls made of
Gunpowder and lead
