Can you smell the sweet aroma of cow manure? Can you feel the pleasant sensation as a bull spears your chest like a skewer? It must be time for the National Finals Rodeo. The NFR is the Sprint Cup of the circuit. To commemorate its fifty year existence, the NFR is issuing a 50 track box set containing nothing but cowboy songs. It will feature artists, such as, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Chris Ledoux, Clint Black, Moe Bandy, and Lynn Anderson. The track list will run the gamut, with songs like Patsy Montana’s “Cowboy Sweetheart,” the Roy Rogers and Clint Black duet “Hold on Partner,” and “Cowboy Town” by Brooks and Dunn.
There are several country artists that used the Rodeo as a stepping stone into Country Music. Reba Mcentire was a great barrel racer. George Strait dabbled into Amateur Rodeo. Chris Ledoux won the word bare-back riding title at no other than the NFR.
