Country Music and Fishing

The dogwoods are blooming. The water temperature is rising. You start feeling an itch than can only be relieved by one thing, the feel of a 5 pound bass on the end of your monofilament line. Fishing has always been my favorite pasttime. My roommates think that it is ridiculous that I watch fishing shows. All I have to say is, ”Who catches the fish? I try to remember what the pros teach, but their guests are just too distracting. Celebrities from every walk of life have been asked to fish along side pro anglers, such as, Bo Jackson, Wade Boggs, and Dale Earnhardt. You don’t see it as much anymore, but the ones that excited me the most were the country stars. During the 1980’s it wasn’t odd to see Jerry Reed or Mel Tillis give Bill Dance a run for his money when it came to reeling in the most fish.  I remember an episode of Fishing with Roland Martin that featured Jerry Clower creating a yarn about the Ledbetter family while they were pulling in monster catfish. I guess Country Music and Fishing go together like sweet tea and fried chicken. Apart from what you see on TV, the love of the sport carries on to everyday life. Troy Gentry owns a catfish pond(I have actually fished in it, he is a nice guy). Jim Ed Brown records a radio show every week here at Purecountrymusic. He is always sharing stories of his recent fishing trips. Brad Paisley is an avid fisherman as well. Wow, I am driving myself crazy with all this fishing talk, I guess I am going to have to renew my license.
