Well, are you ready for it? Here is some country music news coming at you faster than Mel Gibson can chug a bottle of Jose Cuervo.
You might want to stroll on down to Nashville this week on Thursday, Oct. 8. This will be the night for real country music to shine through. The night’s focus will be on the “Songs That Made the Opry Famous.” Among the artists performing, you will see Hal Ketchum, Jack Greene, George Hamilton IV, The Del Mccoury Band, and Mandy Barnett. If you have not had a chance to hear Mandy display her vocal prowess, I suggest you stop what you are doing, get in your car, and pull an all nighter. She is just as smooth as Patsy, and a lot prettier.
If you liked the mellow vibrato of B.J. Thomas, then you will enjoy this little tidbit. 8 albums from Thomas’ Scepter recordings will be reissued on November 4. The 8 albums will be on 4 cds and will consist of all of the original recordings and unreleased material.
Just as George Lucas ruined my childhood with the last Indiana Jones’ outing, Kenny Chesney has caused me to lose all respect for the lauded Austin City Limits series. This is mainly due to the fact that he will be playing there on Oct. 17. This is not all bad. He is bringing along his good friend Mac MacAnally(love that Sawyer Brown song, “All These Years”). I would rather hear him than that little island gnome any day of the week. Kenny had this to say about the upcoming gig, “When you’re playing to 50,000 people, you don’t want the energy to lag, but there’s also that idea that the ballads are the songs that really touch people, and I hate that we can’t go to that quieter place in the show as much. Beyond the thrill of being asked to do the one show that I grew up on, I knew Austin City Limits is a place where those more thoughtful songs are really understood.” Apparently, there is a deeper meaning behind “You Had Me From Hello.”
