Garth Brooks’ So Called Retirement

I am not going to re-report the announcement of Garth’ 5 year plan or his new Las Vegas gig. I am going to ask two questions. Do the fans want him back? And when and if he does come back , in what capacity. The answer to the first one is yes, plain and simple. “More than a Memory” gave proof to this. Even though the song was drab, country radio ate it up, and it holds the record for the highest country charts debut. Garth could have released a single of him covering Sheb Wooley and it would have debuted at #1. Hey, there’s an idea. Garth’s first comeback album should be nothing but Sheb Wooley covers. Sorry, I digress. People will show up in Vegas with their newly bought cowboy hats just so they can look the part at his show. So, where the fans are concerned, there will be no love lost.
The second question’s answer is yet to be determined. I have never seen a Garth Brooks show in person. I did see his NBC special that was broadcasted in the early 1990’s. I have to say it was entertaining. However, in 5 years, is he going to be able pull off the same Barnum and Bailey wire act that he is so famous for? I don’t think his ADD fans could handle a subdued Garth Brooks. Even at 52, he will still try to recreate the energy of his previous tours, and probably end it with a resounding herniated disk. Maybe he will focus on the music, something he hasn’t done since “No Fences.” We will just have to wait and see.
