Singer/Songwriters always get the sehort end of the stick. They usually prefer it that way. For them, crafting a song is like creating a new life. If that means to be under-appreciated, than their Okay with that. Rodney Crowell is the perfect example. Crowell is one of the most respected songwriters in Nashville. If you’ve never picked up a copy of Diamonds and Dirt, I encourage you to do so. “I Couldn’t Leave You If I Tried” is one of those tracks that reminds you why you fell in love with music in the first place. Rodney’s latest album Sex and Gasoline has been nominated for a Grammy under the category Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album. Each song proves that narrative trumps novelty, every time. However, he is among stiff competition, with the likes of Alison Krauss and Robert Plant/Raising Sand, Emmylou Harris’ All I Intended To Be, Joan Baez’ Day After Tomorrow, and Ry Cooder’s I, Flathead.  I love Crowell’s album, but I think that Krauss and Plant will take the Grammy home,  just because they have had more press.
