John Fogerty’s New Country Album

Even though John Fogerty hails from San Francisco, he and his ex-CCR band mates have always been accredited for launching the southern rock movement. After the bands’ bitter break-up in 1972, John Fogerty started his solo career with the country record The Blue Ridge Rangers. The name of the band is misleading, Fogerty actually played every instrument on the album. The album opened with fair reviews, and the Hank Williams classic “Jambalaya(On the Bayou)” peaked as a top 20 country hit. The last album that John Fogerty recorded was Blue Moon Swamp, which garnered a Grammy. However, Fogerty’s new project The Blue Ridge Rangers Ride Again will hit record stores on September 1st. John will be covering a wide range of country styles, such as, The Kendalls, John Denver, Buck Owens, and Ray Price. Unlike the first Rangers album, Fogerty has amassed an impressive line-up of musicians to play on this upcoming record. Steel guitarist Greg Leisz, bass player Dennis Crouch, and Buddy Miller can all be heard on Fogerty’s new album.
What’s incredible about most country albums recorded by established rockers is that they sound more genuine than the schlock that we hear on county radio today. Elvis Costello, Bob Dylan, and even the quirky band Ween have recorded albums that are country to the core. I would love to hear a country record released by Beck. Which rocker, do you think, would put out a viable country album.
