Kanye West Steals Spotlight From Taylor Swift

All right, this is not a rehashing of the same old news. Everyone knows that Kanye West made a complete buffoon out of himself when he interrupted Taylor Swift during her acceptance of the Best Female Video of the Year Award. The real travesty? Is after all of these years that the MTV Video Music Awards is still going strong. My question is, when are these videos in rotation? 2 am? In the grand scheme of things, this and the CMT Music Video Awards, are right up there with the Razzies. These two shows are further testaments to the digression of popular music. There are never any groundbreaking performances, and you get the same musical variety from the latest WOW! Now That’s What I Call Music Collection.
It definitely shows how narrow-minded the guys and gals at MTV are, and with good reason. Videos are fun, but do real musicians even care. We should view the MTV Videos Awards as music’s kiddy table.
(This being said, I don’t know why Kanye bothers to show up to these events. If he is as pretentious as he makes himself out to be, why should he care about this needless awards show. Do the country a favor, stay away. The country doesn’t want to see you and you don’t want to see them.)
I think this was a planned scheme for publicity sake to further interest in Kanye West and Taylor Swift as well. While people will feel sorry for Taylor those that don’t like her will side with Kanye and basically this is just boosting both of their careers. What a horrible thing to do. Besides, I think she would have cried if it wasn’t a scheme. Here’s another great article voicing a different opinion on the matter http://itsallaboutmusic.tv/taylorswiftkanyewest http://itsallaboutmusic.tv/jackassIII
Gee, I’m surprised you didn’t use Kanye West’s actions at the MTV Music Video Awards to give one of your negative commentaries on Taylor Swift. I’d thought you would have praised Mr. (and that’s a very loose term I use) West for “telling it like it is” and being some unsung hero in the vein of Sen. Joe “You Lie” Wilson … that is, people who feel as though they are being silenced in the name of “decorum” and “finally are having the courage to speak up.”
Anyone who believes that line of thought needs to get a clue. Mr. West, just like Sen. Wilson (during President Obama’s address on healthcare reform), broke serious rules of etiquette and decorum. It’s just like in politics — if you disagree with the winner of the Best Female Video category, fine; there’s a time and place to give your views (such as a blog). But not on live television, and definitely not when someone is giving an acceptance speech.
The recent actions by the ilk of Mr. West, Sen. Wilson, Serena Williams, etc. are an unfortunate reflection on American society. It was all well spelled out in a story this week in USA Today; everyone should read it.
It’s already been noted by some in the country music industry, but I’ll say it again: Hats off to Taylor Swift for her grace and handling of the whole situation. She kept her mouth shut at a time when emotions were running high, and was gracious when she was re-invited onstage by Beyoncé (ironically, the woman whom West thought should have won). So far, I’ve heard nothing but positive about Taylor Swift, and her music — unlike some critics, who dismiss it as mere “teen heartbreak pop” — can appeal to all ages. Never mind that one of her pioneering predecessors — Brenda Lee — also sang of “teen heartbreak” but found mass appeal, and deservedly so.
Thumbs up to Taylor Swift.
