Montgomery Gentry Are New Opry Members

Just as pigs are not indigenous to Australia, Montgomery Gentry is not indigenous to the Grand Ole Opry. However, frick(Montgomery) and frack(Gentry) were invited by Charlie Daniels to join the elite country club. It will become official on June 23rd. I guess the Opry finally took pity on these two. Does Opry membership hold as much clout as it did in the past? Am I wrong by equating this accomplishment with extra-curricular activities like the chess and glee club? Opry membership has become country music’s honorary degree.
For a long time, I thought that everyone received a medal, but most of my favorite artists were removed or never asked to join. Maybe artists like Waylon, Hank, and Johnny were just too iconic. The selection does seem random at times. Please tell me how Montgomery Gentry could get in, and Jimmy Martin be snubbed. I guess I will never understand the selection process.
