Johnny Cash’s life cannot be summed up with mere words. It takes an illustrator to depict the Man in Black’s cavalier lifestyle in vivid detail. What are these symbols that go from left to right. I need pictures for me to understand this gobbledegook. Abrams ComicArts will be releasing Johnny Cash: I See a Darkness, a graphic novel detailing the most subversive points in Johnny’s life. Reinhard Kleist is responsible for the artwork and story line. It hits book stores in November 2009. Give me a break. Johnny Cash was great, period. Will we ever forget the legacy he left behind? Not unless we are all suffering from some kind of head trauma. So why do we need a rehashing of the same ole story that we’ve heard time and time again. How will this comic book shed new light on Cash’s persona.
All joking aside, I am a fan of graphic novels. I hold Alan Moore(The Watchmen, V for Vendetta) in the highest respect. However, this seems like a ploy to make easy money. It is already a bestseller in Europe, and it will, without a doubt, do well in the states. If they did something different, like turn Johnny into a super hero, then maybe I would show some interest. Hey, tell me if this sounds cool. There is a scene of a chain gang. An exhausted prisoner falls to his knees. A guard comes over and whips him across the back. The whip goes up the second time, it is caught, mid air, by the Man in Black. Johnny pushes the guard aside, and with a hard strum of his guitar, he shouts out “FOLSOM PRISON BLUES!!!!!!!!!!” The guard is brought to his knees. This super power has the ability to put Mr. Cash’s enemies into a deep depression. The guard sees through the eyes of the prisoner. That would be incredible.
