I am a confessed liner “notophile”. As soon as I pop in newly obtained music, I immediately go to the liner notes and learn who played and sang on what song. Today we were visited by someone who you might have noticed inside an album cover or two. It was the one and only Vip Vipperman. You might not recognize the name, but you probably recognize his work. He co-wrote the Randy Travis top ten hit “1982″ with Buddy Blackmon, and the top 20 hit “There’s a Girl in Texas” with Trace Adkins. Still don’t recognize him. Well here’s one for ya,  He co-wrote and played on the intro to Hee-Haw. Vip’s wonderful guitar work can be found on a plethora of albums. If you have heard a Charlie Mccoy album, chances are you have heard Vip. Are you a big Don Mclean fan? Mr. Vipperman plays lead guitar for the American Pie alumnus. Generally speaking, musicians such as Vip, are the unsung heroes of music. Do downloads take away from the great music that they create? Sure, the lead vocals can make or break a song, but the signature sound that is created from that pedal steel or lead guitar can become a trademark. So I have got some homework for you. Before you pop in that CD of Sugarland(let’s hope not), find out who did the grunt work. Chances are, they are more talented.
