Johnny Wright and Kitty Wells 72 Years and Counting

Every country music publication loves to praise the marriage of Tim Mcgraw and Faith Hill. It seems that every time you pick up an issue of Country Weekly they want to tell you how well Alan and Denise are doing. But no one ever pays attention to country music’s perfect match that is truly one [...]

Exclusive Music

First, we found out that Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson were elitists. Garth Brooks’ music is exclusively sold at Wal-Mart, and the gospel performance by Alan Jackson at the Ryman is only sold at Target. We will not mention all of the numerous albums that can only be found at Cracker Barrel.  Now, Ray Stevens [...]

10 Worse Country Songs of the 1990’s

Country music exploded in popularity during the 1990s. This is when we saw neo-traditionalism at it’s height, and where we saw country pop evolve into what we have today. However, every decade of any genre of music, has had it’s share of dross. You know, the songs that should have never made the cut. This [...]

Did Garth Ruin Country Music?

We all accepted him with open arms. We watched him become an Opry member. Didn’t we all get giddy when we heard the guitar intro to “I’ve Got Friends in Low Places.” But let’s pause right there. I had given up on country music. I was an 80’s kid. Sure, I listened to what my [...]

Is Country Music’s most popular magazine being hurt by the declining economy? The buzz around town, is that Country Weekly will cut all  subscriptions and will only be sold exclusively at the newsstand. This is an 80% decrease in circulation. Adage.com is estimating sales of 75,000 copies per issue at the newsstand.  They are also decreasing the content and lowering the newsstand [...]

And the Winner is…

The CMA results are in so let’s see if I made the right predictions from one of my previous blogs.  Well for the most part my predictions were right, with the exception of Single of the Year.  Here’s a rundown of my predictions and how they lined up with the results.
Top Female Vocalist:  I said [...]

CMA Rehearsals Begin

On November 9, 2008 rehearsals began at the Sommet Center right here in Music City.  All of the performing artists were there to run through sound and audio/video checks.  All of the performing artists are trying to get all of the bugs worked out of their performances before the big star-studded night.  Of course the [...]

1958

So what all was happening in 1958?  Well let me take a minute to tell you.  Private, Elvis Presley headed off to Germany to serve the United States, Ray Price sang a song written by Bill Anderson that hit number one (”City Lights”), Buck Owens recorded his first chart hitting single, and low and behold [...]

42nd CMA Awards

Today I was looking at the list of nominees for this year’s 42nd Country Music Awards.  As usual I am not surprised by this year’s nominees and as as usual I am going to make my predictions.  Last year Top Female Vocalist went to Carrie Underwood, rightfully so, in my opinion.  This year I think [...]

#1 Overrated Country Song Of All Time

1. “Where Were You(When The World Stopped Turning)” I am pretty sure this one will lead to my assassination. This song was not a war profiter, but it prompted other country stars to starting aiming their sights at the Middle East. What really turned this song sour for me, were the words, “I don’t know [...]
